Burton Rugby in the Community Scores with Brewers' £1,000 Grant

Increasing numbers of youngsters in Burton and district are set to enjoy coaching facilities at the town’s Rugby Club thanks to a £1,000 grant from the Burton Breweries Charitable Trust towards coaching fees and a leadership course for new coaches that’ll provide girls only tag rugby and touch rugby sessions for 11 to 16 year olds this summer.

Based at the Peel Croft, home to one of the ten oldest rugby clubs in the World, the Club has around five hundred junior members and provides coaching sessions on Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday evenings plus coaching and games on Sundays.

Steve Smith, Burton’s head coach, former Burton 1st. XV player and now Nottingham RUFC’s 1st. XV manager and that club’s Community Manager, said “Thanks to the Burton Breweries Charitable Trust’s £1,000 grant we’re able to run our leadership course that’ll attract more coaches to look after the dozens of youngsters that are enjoying rugby, learning about discipline and teamwork”.

“We’re delighted to be supporting the young boys and girls at Burton Rugby Club helping them to enjoy competitive sport and exercise at this friendly & successful club” said Adrian Wedgwood, Trustee of the Burton Breweries Charitable Trust.

“Following over twelve years of successfully supporting many youth organisations in East Staffordshire and South Derbyshire the Trust has made a number of changes to the type & number of projects that can be supported and to our area of benefit.

To maximise the funds available for grants the Trust is reducing its operating costs, concentrating on fewer beneficiaries, supporting longer term schemes and increasing the size of grants made to a minimum of £2,500.

Potential applicant organisations are advised to read carefully the new Terms and Conditions contained on www.burtonbctrust.co.uk and note the revised, shorter, list of postcodes from which applications can now only be received” he added.
